She helped build a couple of houses, and one of them will be her own. When Twine took a week's vacation from her position as dietary assistant at Forest Park Health Campus, she put in some of the 350 "sweat -equity" hours she is required to work building houses as the down payment on her new Habitat for Humanity home. She also has agreed to repay an -free loan.
Twine said she began seriously considering applying for a Habitat for Humanity home after her mother had a stroke in 2008 and she feared her mother would need to move in with her if she was unable to continue working or climbing the outside steps that led to her apartment. "It came time for signups and right before that my mom had had another stroke and obviously I was going to have her move in with me," said Twine. However, before she applied for a home, Twine's mother died. "She passed away Oct. 9, 2008, and signups were two days later, and I almost didn't go because we had a funeral to plan and I just wasn't in the right state of mind.
And my sister said, 'You know, Mom would want you to do this. Mom is still watching down on you.
