Katy Marchant asked "what's next" after she and Team GB duo Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane "completed" an incredible team sprint campaign at Paris 2024, where they smashed the world record three times in one night. The British trio stormed to victory over New Zealand on a thrilling night of track cycling action. "In the final we just went all guns blazing, absolutely nothing to lose," she said.
'We completed it!' - Marchant visits 'Bonjour Paris' to talk GB's track glory
Katy Marchant and Team GB wrapped up an incredible team sprint campaign at Paris 2024 earlier this week as they smashed the world record three times to claim gold in style.
Marchant, alongside duo Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane, broke the world’s fastest time in the qualifier, before doing so again in the heat and final to edge New Zealand to Olympic glory.
Their final effort, clocking in at 45.186, was enough to claim Great Britain’s maiden medal of any colour in the women’s team sprint.
(It was) an incredible competition to be a part of, to break the world record once and then again and again in the final is such a surreal moment,” Marchant told Eurosport’s breakfast show Bonjour Paris.
“One I’m sure will stay with us for a long time. It’s been 11 years in the making, the strength and depth that has been coming through in the women’s sprint programme.
“We completed it. What’s the next challenge?”

The world record was broken an astonishing five times on Monday as Team GB, Germany and NZ all battled for gold.
After Marchant, Capewell and Finucane had initially set the world’s fastest time, Germany and NZ both had their say to trump GB’s efforts in the heats, before the British trio capped off the evening in electric fashion to snatch the record.
“After we broke the record the first time, we debriefed as a team, we sat and looked at the videos, and we knew we had more to give,” Marchant revealed.
“And then it was about keeping composure and being able to deliver that in the first round, and then in the final we just went all guns blazing, absolutely nothing to lose.
“When we got into that final we all just saw red, we absolutely wanted that more than anything in the world.
“To be able to execute that as a team of three on the day, in that moment, is just really, really special."

The 31-year-old delved deeper into her experiences from a hectic evening at the National Velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, where the records were being broken left, right and centre.
“You are always looking at the competitors around and you can hear ‘world record broken’ and then we’re next up on the track,” Marchant said.
“The first round was where most of the records fell. We were in the last heat going off and we had worked so hard as a team to focus on our processes and make sure we are focussing on ourselves.
“Yes you hear the noise, but it was straight back to our job at hand. If we could execute a good, clean ride, we were capable of that.”

Marchant added: “It was very, very emotional. All three of us, and the wider team, had an incredible journey and it just felt so special.
“Something we’d allowed ourselves to dream of a little bit, but to finally do it and be able to share that victory with those two girls.”
